Ghaziabad: With dense fog over northern region and recent train accidents, the train operation in North Central zones of Indian Railways has been drastically affected. Several trains on Delhi-Howrah route are running late by several hours.

On Thursday, New Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi was late by six hours while Rewa Express was delayed by 30 hours. Erratic timing due to late running of trains have caused immense trouble to the passengers as well as the Railways’ which has incurred losses worth crores in last few days.

As informed by one Railway official, every year workshop is conducted by the department to guide locomotive pilots and guards about the ways to maintain proper functioning of train movement but this year no such activity has taken place.

More so, the directives for managing trains are in English rather than in Hindi, making it difficult for the Railway workers to understand.
