New Delhi: Dense fog and inclement weather leading to cancellation of many trains has dented revenue of the railways. The railways bears a loss of about Rs 7 lakh owing to cancellation of a train.

The railways authorities are trying to seek way to check plummeting graph of its profit.  Every year scores of trains get cancelled or delayed due to bad weather.

This year more than 70 trains of the northern railways have been cancelled.

According to railways officials, every long-distance train earns railways about Rs 10-12 lakh, of which Rs 3-4 lakh are spent on its operation, including maintenance, fuel and salaries of the employees.

“Cancellation and delay of trains owing to fog are causing huge losses.  The government should take concrete step to remove these perennial problems,” a railway official said.
