Jaipur: Calling Rajasthan the land of the brave, President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil on Tuesday said that the country will always remember the immense contribution of the holy land in giving valiant sons who had laid down their lives serving the nation.

“I am privileged to visit this land that has produced the courageous and heroic men who have devoted their lives for the country being in the army,” said Patil while addressing a rally of retired army after unveiling a statue of legendary Rajput patriot Maharana Pratap in Diwer under Rajsamand district.

Remembering the life and courage of Maharana Pratap, President Patil said the country is proud of him.

"It is a proud moment for me to unveil the statue of India’s one of the most courageous heroes. Maharana Pratap is source of inspiration for the young generation of the country and youths should follow his virtue of patriotism, leadership and brotherhood," the President added.

"Our soldiers guard our borders and even after retirement contribute in the progress of the society. They will always be respected for their courage and sacrifice. Hence, it is our responsibility to take appropriate care of our brave soldiers who have retired or were injured in wars," Patil said.

Located about 50 km from the district headquarters, Diver, holds a special place in history as Maharana Pratap and his son Amar Singh had defeated hostile forces about 415 years ago. The region also boasts of sending a large number of recruits to the Indian armed forces.
 
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was also present on the occasion.
