"The state government will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 2,000 crore every year for the implementation of this scheme," Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anil Deshmukh told reporters in Mumbai.

The ambitious scheme would be unveiled on January 31 by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Airoli in Navi Mumbai and would be rolled out from February, he added.

According to the minister, the digitization work of ration cards is underway and more than 7 crore people in the state would benefit from it.
