Udhampur: Security has been beefed up for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start in the next few days.

On one hand, the district administration is engaged in preparations to provide basic amenities to the tourists, whereas the police department is strengthening up the security of langars, residing areas along with the Amaranth route. With additional companies of the police forces, Army and CRPF have also been called for security.

Jagjeet Kumar, DIG, Udhampur Reasi Range told, “We have made multi-dimensional plans for fool-proof security”. He said, “Apart from the district police, additional companies of police, army and CRPF will look after the security arrangements.”

Special strategy has been devised to prevent any untoward incident like Birma bridge bomb-blast that was reported last month.

Special directions have been made to the Road Opening Party (ROP) for the surveillance of the pilgrimage route under their control. Placement of security forces on the yatra route will soon be completed.

Since Amaranth pilgrims visit Vaishno Devi shrine before or after the pilgrimage, security has been beefed up at the Katra shrine as well.

All the police stations have been directed to keep a vigil in the adjoining areas as well as the yatra route. Security personnel have been put on alert and the residents have been advised to report any suspicious article, person or vehicle to the police.
