Bhopal: Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and ex-Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Sushil Chandra Verma committed suicide on Thursday evening by jumping from the roof of his house, police said. He was four time MP from Bhopal Parliamentary constituency.

87 year old Verma, a BJP member, represented Bhopal in the Lok Sabha for four terms in the years 1989, 1991, 1996 and 1998. He defeated Congress veteran KN Pradhan, Cricket star late Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Swami Agnivesh and Arif Beg.

A suicide note had been found by the police in which Verma had written that he was ending his life in wake of poor health and depression.  Verma is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
