Chaibasa: A local court awarded a three month jail to former Congress parliamentarian Bagun Su Barooi for being found guilty of violating the code of conduct during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. Hearing on the case, Judicial Magistrate, BB Gautam found that an election banner of Barooi did not carry the name of the publisher and printer. However, he was granted bail soon after.

The banner had been set up in a residence in the Bistupur area under Jhinkpani police station. During the survey of the area, the issue was taken into account by the Election Officer and a case was lodged against the Congress candidate.

Barooi has decided to challenge the decision in a higher court. Claiming that he had faith in the judiciary system, Barooi termed it as a planned move of the opposition parties to tarnish his image.
