Koeman suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday. After three days in a coma, he died in a hospital in Leeuwarden on Wednesday evening.

Koeman has been active for FC Groningen for 50 years. He played over 500 matches and also held the position of coach, technical manager, founder of the youth academy and scout.

Koeman played just one international match for the Netherlands, a friendly against Austria April 12, 1964 (1-1). Not as much as his sons Ronald (78 internationals) and Erwin (31), who became European champions with the Netherlands in 1988.
