Chandigarh: An IAS officer has alleged that Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal had asked him for a bribe of Rs 1 crore. The IAS officer has also filed a petition in a local court in this regard.

It was reported that the state's Vigilance Bureau department had arrested Punjab cadre IAS officer VK Janjua for taking a bribe in 2009. While he was the Director of Punjab Industries department he was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe from a Ludhiana-based industrialist and later on released on bail.

Hearing the petition, filed by V K Janjua on Friday, the Chandigarh district court has asked the IAS officer to submit more details pertaining to his allegations on January 21.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal has said that in the wake of the Assembly elections, State Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh is underplaying with the issue. “It is amazing that the tainted officer has come up with his frivolous allegations after a gap of 2 years,” SAD said.
