Ranchi: Facing allegations of involvement in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam, former state health secretary and IAS officer Dr Pradeep Kumar surrendered in a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday.

Special CBI judge, NN Singh, sent Kumar to judicial custody for four days. He will be produced in the court again on August 12.

Another accused in the case, former Jharkhand Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi surrendered before the court last Saturday.

Kumar surrendered owing to the court’s order of attaching his property if he fails to turn up by Monday. Pradeep and Bhanu were absconding after a note to this order was pasted outside their house.

Pradeep has been accused of being involved in the NRHM scam worth Rs 130 crore, taking bribe of Rs 4.85 lakh in logistics scam and acquiring disproportionate assets.

Pradeep has been sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi where Bhanu is already lodged since Saturday.
