While talking exclusively to Dainik Jagran, the former Director General of Police (Prison) said, “I will not contest the general elections in 2014. However, my role as a political leader will be significant in 2017.”

“I had a meeting with top brass Sanjay Singh and Yogendra Yadav, whom I conveyed my decision. I also met AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who accepted my agenda for the polls,” Kant told Dainik Jagran.

Kant, who has staged war against the drug mafia in the state, had earlier declined joining any political outfit.

When asked about his decision to join the newly-floated political party, he said, “AAP is not just a symbol of change for the political system of the country but it will also pronounce the social change for the country. I have opened war against drug trafficking active in the country and AAP will act as a catalyst in achieving my mission.”

Notably, the AAP is running a huge membership drive across the country. Many prominent figures including top journalist Ashutosh and sportsperson Milkha Singh’s wife and daughter have recently joined the new outfit.

The party is leaving no stone unturned to make its position stronger in Punjab and Haryana. With its unique membership drive gaining huge response countrywide, the major political parties Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are expected to have a tough fight in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
