New Delhi: In addition to the setting the track on fire, the much awaited first formula one race scheduled to start from October 28 in Greater Noida is also expected to increase the air traffic at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport manifold. During the three-day formula one event in the Greater Noida, there would a record number of aircraft movement at IGI.

The deluge of air transportation during the sports event is likely to leave behind the air traffic of Singapore’s Changi airport. 

Haj pilgrimage and festival season is also likely to increase in the number of planes. From September 28 to the present day, on eight occasions the number of airplanes arriving and departing from IGI has gone past the 900 mark.

Significantly, the officials of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) have already stated their preparations in this regard from December 2010. Especially, for the cargo aircrafts which would be carrying formula racer cars, medical car, engineering and communication instruments. Special arrangements have been made for the handling of goods.

New Electronic Transfer Vehicle (ETV) would be installed in the airport’s cargo terminal. In order to lift the cars, Battery Operated Forklift would also be installed. In view of the security, bar coding system has been introduced to X-ray machine.

At present, 25 to 35 cargo planes are being operated on a daily basis in the airport. During Formula One race of the seven new cargo aircraft are expected to be operational with a capacity of 40 cars.

There would be special parking for the cargo crafts in the cargo terminal from October 18 to 20.
