Noida: The foundation of journalism is based on truth and raising the people’s voice in right perspective is basic tenet of media, said famous columnist and senior journalist Kuldip Nayar during an anniversary of Dainik Jagran’s Jagran Institute of Management and Mass Communication (JIMMC).

Kuldip Nayar told the students that the power of market is trying to redefine journalism, however Indian soil and culture is so powerful that it will reestablish its glorious history.

Despite market’s pressure which made corporate world, government and media speak the same language, public interests cannot be ignored. He expected from the new generation of journalists to protect the dignity and values of journalism.

On this occasion, country’s prominent sociologist and JNU professor Yogendra Singh said that journalism is the main carrier of social changes. He told the students that fundamental condition of journalism is to understand the sense of the society.

“As the journalists are also the part of this society, until and unless they protect social values they will divert from the main motive of journalism,” He added.

Director General of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Sunit Tandon said that along with the technical knowledge, the journalists must have complete information about the incidents of their own country as well as the world.
