Satna: Four alleged dacoits of `Raja gang' were killed on Thursday in an encounter with the police about 85 km from here, under the Warodha police station limits.

Five others managed to escape, police said.

The gang, on June 1, had kidnapped a businessman called Dhirendra Sahu and demanded a ransom of Rs six lakhs.

Acting on a tip-off, police surrounded the gang members near the Madhya Pradesh - Uttar Pradesh border.

The dacoits allegedly refused to surrender and fired upon the police, who retaliated.

Police said that the killed dacoits hailed from Uttar Pradesh, Chitrakoot near here, and other places. Two rifles, two country-made pistols and 40 live cartridges were recovered from the spot.
