Islamabad: A religious leader in Pakistan had a miraculous escape on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire at his vehicle in the southern port city of Karachi, killing four people, a media report said.

The attack took place in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area when Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi, leader of Ahle-e-Sunnat Jamaat, was travelling in his car, Farooqi's three guards and the driver were killed on the spot. He sustained bullet injuries but was said to be in a stable condition.

The Ahle-e-Sunnat Jamaat is a religious organisation for Sunni Muslims. There were conflicting media reports, which said four policemen, a security guard and a driver were killed.
