Ranchi: In view of alarming infant and maternal mortality rate in Jharkhand, the state government will provide free child-delivery and medical care under the National Rural and Health Mission from August 15.

The government will implement the Mother Child Protection Program under which medicines, health checkups, and food will be given to the pregnant women free of cost. Even in case of cesarean, the state government is ready to foot the bill.

In addition, the newborns will be provided free health care facilities for a month. The government will also incur the expenses of transportation of patients from their residence to hospital and vice-versa and in case of patients being referred to some other health centre.

In order to implement the programme successfully, all civil surgeons have directed to make ensure free basic checkups like pregnancy test, hemoglobin, urine test, ultrasound at every delivery point.

Taking care of nutritional requirements of mother, the government has decided to dole out free food for three days in case of normal delivery and for seven days in a cesarean case.
