New Delhi: The police claimed to have solved the case in the murder of a French woman, whose body was allegedly found at a hotel in Paharganj.

The accused, Manzoor Ahmed, was arrested from Srinagar on Sunday and was brought to the national capital on transit remand for questioning. “Manzoor Ahmed was arrested for murdering Lauren (34). Her body was found in room no 203 of Hindustan Guesthouse” said a police officer. Lauren’s decomposed body was found on April 5.

The police produced Manzoor before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) magistrate of Tees Hazari Court, which has remanded him to Tihar jail.

After the postmortem report, which was conducted at the Lady Harding Hospital on Sunday, her body was handed over to the French embassy through which it would be sent to France. Primary postmortem report has not been disclosed yet. According to sources, she was allegedly strangled to death after her rape.

Lauren’s body was recovered from Room No. 203 of Hindustan guest house of Paharganj on Thursday noon. Manzoor Ahmed, who runs a handicraft shop in Paharganj had booked the same room on March 23 where the foreigner was found dead. The woman often came to meet him. On 4th April, Manzoor absconded from the hotel after breaking the lock of his room.
