"We imported 8 cargoes in October-December quarter and plan to import another 7 in fourth quarter (of current fiscal)," GAIL Chairman and Managing Director B C Tripathi told reporters here.
In all 26 cargoes will be imported this fiscal and next year "we are looking at importing 32 to 33 cargoes," he said.
GAIL imports ships filled with natural gas that has been turned into liquid at sub-zero temperatures, at Dahej import terminal in Gujarat and the Dabhol facility in Maharashtra.
The 5 million tons a year Dabhol terminal can be operated at two-third its capacity in absence of breakwaters that prevent the ships from damage while berthing at the port.
"This year, the first full year of operation of Dabhol, we will import 0.8 million tons of LNG. Next year, we plan to import 1.5 million tons of LNG," he said.
