New Delhi: The health condition of 23-year-old gang rape victim continues to remain critical as she suffered from more internal bleedings and remains on ventilator support, doctor said on Tuesday.

Doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital, where she was rushed to after being raped and brutally assaulted in a moving bus on December 16 night, said that the bleeding which has been caused by sepsis, a severe blood infection that can lead to organ failure, remains a cause of ‘major concern’ as far as the girl's health is concerned.

“She is suffering internal bleeding as the coagulation capacity of her body has reduced. We had taken her off the ventilator on Saturday as there were few symptoms of improvement but after bleeding we have kept her again on ventilator support,” said Dr BD Athani, medical superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital.

To improve her blood coagulation power, doctors are giving her frozen plasma and Pleiotrophin (PTN) to improve her blood coagulation power. Frozen plasma contains all coagulation factors.

On Monday, the victim had shown some tendency for internal bleeding but her platelet count had increased to 70,000 from Sunday's 19,000. A normal platelet count in a healthy individual is between 150,000 and 450,000 per micro-litre of blood.
