Uttarkashi: After two days of halt, the vehicular movement resumed once again on Tuesday at Gangotri National Highway. Heavy rainfall and landslides at Therang and Gangrani had blocked the national highway on Sunday night.

According to reports, the debris due to landslides halted the traffic, leaving thousands of pilgrims stranded.

Personnel of Bridge Roadway Organisation (BRO) rushed to the site and cleared the blockade after a struggle of 50 hours. However, heavy rainfall posed great difficulty for the BRO crew to clear the route.

Notably, continuous downpour increases the chance of landslide to trigger any time.

BRO official, Gautam Patnaik informed that due to continuous landslides at several locations, it is difficult to open the national highway. He said, “to tackle the problem of landslide, BRO crew is working in every possible way to help the pilgrims."
