Chandigarh: A 23-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping into Bhakra canal at Ropar in Punjab on Saturday.
    
The girl, a resident of Mira Bai Chowk area of Ropar, was employed at a local gas agency in Giani Zail Singh Nagar, police said.
    
She went to Bhakra Canal Bridge on Majri road on her scooter and jumped into the canal.
    
The girl had allegedly sought a leave from the agency manager on the Valentine's Day and the manager had allegedly refused to grant the leave.
    
However, the girl did not attend the office. Following which, the manager allegedly dismissed her from the job and asked her not to come to gas agency office again.
    
Police have recovered a suicide note from scooter of the girl, in which she has stated that she was ending her life due to harassment by the gas agency manager.
    
"Police have registered a case against agency manager RK Sharma and started the investigations, the body of the girl has also been retrieved from the canal," said Manvir Singh Bajwa, SHO of Ropar city.
