Bijnor: Girl students in Bijnor have been barred from wearing black clothes and jeans at a function to be presided over by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Controversies erupted after Bijnor district administration circulated orders ahead of Chief Ministers’ scheduled visit to Rampur.

In a bizarre order, District Magistrate, who herself is a woman, has passed orders barring girl students from wearing black clothes and jeans at the function. The state government has announced to give away allowances to the girl students under the state sponsored scheme ‘Hamari Beti, Uska Dhan’ and ‘Kanya Vidya Dhan’.

The Chief Minister will distribute cheque worth Rs 30, 000 to each listed candidate during the function but the district magistrate has passed an order restricting the girl students to wear black clothes.

In fact, most of the candidates listed under this scheme come from the Minority community. After the DM’s order, burqa-clad girl students can’t turn up at the function. The Muslim community has expressed displeasure over the alleged order.

However, the District Magistrate said "There is no such ban. We have just asked them to wear sober clothes. Our directives to the girls are being misinterpreted”
