"My government has issued instructions for liberal registration of FIRs, which resulted in FIRs being registered for crimes alleged to have taken place much earlier," the Governor said while addressing the Goa Assembly here today.
   
"With dedicated efforts of law enforcement agencies, the overall crime situation remained under control. The crime detection rate has increased to 67.30 percent," he stated.
   
He said the state government has taken a series of measures to make the law enforcement agency effective in the discharge of their duties.
   
"A large number of vacant posts in the police department are being filled up to meet the growing requirements of manpower," he said.
   
"Highway patrol squads have been deployed on important stretches of the national highways to monitor and detect illegal unlawful activities and provide a sense of security to the travelling public," Wanchoo said.
   
The Governor further said a cyber crime cell has been created in the police department to exclusively deal with cyber crimes.
   
Three coastal police stations at Chapora, Ribandar and Talpona have been established, he added.
