Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made the announcement in Panaji. Earlier the OBC quota was 19.5 percent.      

He said that 26.26 percent of the families in the state belong to OBC category, which comprises 19 castes.
     
The state has provided 12 percent reservations for the scheduled casts and two percent for scheduled tribes.
     
Parrikar said that the creamy layer among the OBCs has been excluded; income condition for defining creamy layer has been raised to Rs 6 lakh per annum from Rs 4.5 lakh per annum.
     
"This (increase in the reservations) is one of the assurances given by BJP in election manifesto," Parrikar said.
