Lucknow: In a bizarre incident, Cabinet minister Azam Khan has been allotted the Department of Urban Integrated Development which does not exist in reality and was abolished four years ago.

In fact Mayawati soon after assuming power five years back had set up three Departments: Integrated Rural Development Department, Infrastructure Development Department and Integrated Urban Development Department on May 18, 2007.

Separate orders were issued on January 23, 2008 for the works covered under the Integrated Urban Development Department and the sections involved in it. Section 9 of the City Municipal Corporation was modified into Section 1 of the Integrated Urban Development Department and the works covered under the Manyawar Kanshiram Ji Urban development policy were given to the department.

However, within a year of setting up of the department, Secretary of the Secretariat Administration Kamran Rizvi ordered for the abolition of the department on June 2, 2008. In addition, the Section 1 of the Integrated Urban development Department was again restored under Section 9 of the City Municipal Corporation.

While Mohammad Azam Khan was made in charge of the already abolished Integrated Urban development Department, VN Garg was appointed as the Chief Secretary of the department.

It is noteworthy that after the conclusion of the oath taking ceremony, 11 departments were left out which were not allocated to anyone. When a notification was issued on March 20 for the allocation of the remaining departments, the abolished Integrated Urban Development Department was also allocated in the process.
