Rubik's Cube puzzle was invented by Hungarian architecture professor Erno Rubik in 1974 and it comprises 26 cubes that rotate on a central axis and has nine coloured cube sides.

The faces in the form of three rows and three columns make up each side of the cube.

When the cube is twisted on its axis, the player has to rearrange the small cubes so that the original configuration is attained.

Rubik originally intended to create a working model to help students understand 3D geometry, but in the process created the world's best selling toy.

According to reports, the toy was at the height of its popularity in the mid-1980s. It was estimated that one fifth of the world's population had played with the puzzle.
