They contain lot of vitamins and minerals which are very essential for a fit physique. So if you want to keep yourself healthy just gorge on fruits and vegetables.

Pick up any fruit or vegetable you come across in the market as they will not only help you shed those extra kilos but also give you a glowing complexion.

Dietician Daljit says, “Nature has been bestowed with a special capacity to provide us with just the required eatables which our body demands. With the change in season, the availability of vegetables and fruits in the market also changes.”

She adds, “For example, mango, which is a rich supplier of Vitamin C, beta- carotene and anti-oxidant, is available in the months of May and June. And just look at the balance of nature. These very substances are required by our body in summer season. So, one should have mangoes.”

Similarly, in winters, the intake of orange, grapes, carrot and green vegetables is essential.

So, here’s a list of a few fruits and vegetables with their beneficial effects.

Spinach (Paalak): This vegetable is abundantly grown during winter. It is a great source of Vitamin A, C, K, B2 and B6. The anti-oxidants present in spinach protect us from the harmful effects of pro-radicals.

Methi: Try to have plenty of methi in the winter season as it really helps in curing anaemia and also controls blood sugar level.

Water melon: This fruit is available in summers and is a favourite among fruit lovers. Water melon is a good source of Vitamin C. It hydrates our body and keeps our skin healthy.

Pea:  Vitamin B1, B6 and B3 are present in peas. These vitamins help in the digestion of proteins and carbohydrates present in our food.

Litchi: This fruit protects us from heat stroke. Its intake is highly recommended during summers.

Carrot:  Enriched with carotene, carrot is really beneficial for our eyes.

Strawberry:  Monsoon is the perfect season for juicy strawberry. The ellagic acid and anthocyanosides present in strawberry can prevent cancer and is really good for our heart.

Cucumber: Though cucumber is available in all seasons, its beneficial effects make it more popular during summers. Cucumber soothes our body and its water content is really helpful in hydrating our cells. The presence of potassium and calcium helps in improving our blood circulation. Other than eating this fruit, it can also be applied as a face pack.

Broccoli: This fruit is available between July-October. Broccoli is an excellent source of indoles and sulforaphane which help in the prevention of cancer. It also keeps us immune from fungal infections.

Orange: It is enriched with Vitamin C, potassium and calcium which makes us immune to cold and cough. Orange has a good quantity of folic acid which is extremely beneficial for pregnant ladies.

Mango: This is undoubtedly the king of summer fruits. A rich supplier of Vitamin C and Vitamin B, mango gives you instant energy. The anti-oxidants present in mango helps in dealing with ageing problems.
