Director Punit Malhotra defines “Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" as a movie which has a "deeper meaning". He also said that this movie is different from any other Bollywood romantic comedy. "I hope ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' is not perceived as a rom-com because there is a deeper meaning in the second half," Punit said.
In fact, the film's composer Vishal Dadlani believes the movie can redefine the way Hindi rom-coms are seen in the country.
"The film never becomes heavy and the things that need to be told, have been told beautifully and it is still a fun and entertaining film. According to me, this film can redefine the way rom-coms are thought of in this country," Vishal said at a radio station on Wednesday.
He said the film has an underlying message for the youth but it gives it out in a non-preachy manner.
Reportedly, director Punit Malhotra's film 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' was initially meant to be a two-hero two-heroine project and he wanted Saif Ali Khan in it.
At one point of time this film was a two hero-two heroine subject. I only went to the boys. It was Saif and Imran. But for some reasons that didn't work out. I then made it into a solo hero film," Punit said.
Punit has teamed up with Imran for the second time after 'I Hate Luv Storys' and it was relatively easier as they understand things and share a good rapport now. It was also easy to convince Kareena for the film.
Besides, Kareena the movie also features Shraddha Kapoor essaying the role of Vashudha. In an interview Punit said that he wrote the role of Vashudha keeping Shraddha in mind.
"First choice was Shraddha and this was even before 'Aashiqui 2'. I went to her. I gave her the subject and said, 'It's a very nice role. You will look really nice doing it.' And she jumped at it," Punit said.

In an interview Imran Khan said that director Punit Malhotra was his source of inspiration for his character in "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein".
"I'm playing a Casanova in the movie and Punit is my source of inspiration. He used to come shirtless, get a massage done on the sets, joke around with the crew and lots more. I did exactly what he does always. In fact, it seemed like I was living his life," Imran said during an interaction on TV show "Star Verdict".
