New Delhi: Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday assured the political parties that the Centre would take a decision on separate state-hood of Telangana within a month.

Shinde made this announcement during an all-party meeting in the national capital where two representatives of all the parties were invited to express their views on Telangana.

Assuring the representatives of some concrete decision within a month, Shinde also appealed the students campaigning for Telangana state-hood to maintain calm.

"A decision will be taken within a month, we have heard the members of various parties, we have noted their views and will brief the government about it," Shinde told reporters after an all-party meet on the issue.

However, Shinde refused to comment on stand of parties that participated in the meet on Telangana saying that it need not to be disclosed at the juncture.

The representatives of eight major political parties from Andhra Pradesh - the Congress, BJP, Telangana Rashtra Samiti  or TRS, Telugu Desam Party  or the TDP, the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India-Marxist, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress attended the meeting called by the Union Home Minister.

The demand to carve out separate Telangana state gained momentum after the Congress party accepted the demand in principal.

So far, 33 Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Praja Rajyam Party and Independent lawmakers hailing from the Telangana region have resigned from the Parliament as well as the Andhra Pradesh state assembly.
