"We cannot direct the Supreme Court or the High Court," he said on demands for a CBI probe. "The Opposition is making an issue of a non-issue," he said while appealing to them to not politicise it.

"It is very unfortunate that Congress is playing politics over bodies. They (Congress) are trying to connect deaths to Vyapam scam. The state government stands with bereaved families in the hour of their grief," said state Health Minister Narottam Mishra in Bhopal.

Hitting out at the Shivraj Singh Chouhan Government, the Congress said Chouhan was the kingpin of the Vyapam 'mahaghotala' (mega scam) and had become 'maut ka saudagar' (merchant of death). Adding to the woes of the Chief Minister, another whistleblower Anand Rai also raised serious concerns over threat to his life and demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe.

Congress spokesperson P C Chacko asserted that there are serious allegations against people close to Chouhan besides the family itself. "The CM should ask for a CBI probe into the matter if he feels that he is in the clear," Chacko added.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh alleged that the death of the woman trainee sub-inspector was linked to the scam. "Training cop recruited through Vyapam commits suicide in Sagar Police Academy MP.  46th or 47th (sic)?," he tweeted.
