Bhopal: The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) has refused to accept the state government’s claim that it would save five villages affected from the Omkareshwar Project from submergence by building an embankment. Challenging the government’s claim, the NBA said, if the claim holds any credibility, the Chief Minister must show the courage to reside in any of these villages during the rainy season.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Alok Agarwal and Chittaroopa of NBA said, “In spite of the five villages Dharni, Kothmeer, Narshinghpura, Nayapura and Guwadi falling in submerge affected area, the government has tried to confuse the court by claiming that it can save the people by building an embankment.”

“The government took this step to avoid the responsibility of rehabilitation of these people. The truth is that the rains will completely submerge these villages,” they said, adding that 750 acres land of these villages will fall in the submerged area.

Answering to a question, NBA activists said, “While on one hand, Shivraj Singh Chauhan government is shouting the slogan of ‘daughters are future’ but the daughters of these villages do not have any future. Who will save them?”

Meanwhile, the dam-affected people took out a rally from Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park to Iqbal Maidan in support of their demands. A representative body of the organization also submitted a memorandum to Governor Ram Naresh Yadav.
