New Delhi: In order to bring the backward states like Bihar and Jharkhand at par with other developed states in terms of road connectivity, the Centre is all set to expedite the National Highway (NH) projects being carried out in both the states.

In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Surface Transport, Jitin Prasad said the Centre is striving hard for expediting the road projects in these two states.

Presently, 64 projects in Bihar related to NH and 71 projects in Jharkhand are underway. However, 35 projects got delayed due to slow pace in construction in both the states.

“The development of National Highways and its maintenance are a continuous process. The roads are repaired on the basis of availability of the funds as well as the traffic load in the area concerned,” said Prasad.

Over the last three years, Surface Transport Ministry, for the development of NH, has allotted funds worth Rs 327.01 crore to Jharkhand and Rs 548.46 crore to Bihar, added the Minister.
