Expressing her shock over the unfortunate incident on microblogging site Twitter, she said, “The assault on students from north east is a matter of shame. The Government is not doing enough for their safety and security.”

Swaraj, who is the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, further asked her party workers to stand in support and protection of the children belonging to the north-eastern part of the country.

“It is the duty of every BJP worker to help and protect our children from north east,” she said.

Nido Tania, the son of a Congress MLA in Arunachal Pradesh, was found dead inside his room on Thursday. He had allegedly been beaten up by some shopkeepers in Lajpat Nagar after he broke a window pane there when he was mocked over his hairstyle.

The BJP has demanded a thorough probe into the incident and asked Delhi government to take strict action against the attackers and police and ensure steps for the safety of students from the region.

Meanwhile, the investigators have identified three more persons who allegedly assaulted Tania. Several teams of Delhi Police have been sent to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab to trace the trio. Two shopkeepers have already been apprehended in this case.
