New Delhi: In a major decision, Defence Ministry is preparing to increase the monetary allowance given to the winners of Param Vir Chakra. The Central government also wants to pour in more funds in the state government accounts which are meant to help the gallantry award winners financially.

However, annual allowance for the winners of nation’s highest gallantry award has been enhanced to Rs10000 per month, but the Defence Minister AK Antony is of the opinion that the amount of allowance for gallantry award winners especially for Param Vir Chakra awardees should be increased.

The Defense Ministry also put in efforts to streamline the process of giving the same economic benefits to all the gallantry award winners of different states, but things could not be materialized.

For this, the Defence Minister is ready to take up the issue with Chief Ministers of different states. There is a huge difference in the annual allowances given to the soldiers in different states.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh provides Rs 1000 as the monthly allowances, whereas Uttar Pradesh gives Rs 1500 per month.

The Maharashtra Government in accordance with the order issued in May 2011 has made an arrangement to give equal amount of Rs 25 Lakh to the winners of Maha Vir Chakra and Param Vir Chakra.
