Gohana (Haryana): In a novel move to ensure regular presence of teachers in the schools, the Directorate of Secondary Education, Haryana has made biometric thumb impression mandatory in the government schools.

With the introduction of biometric machines, teachers deployed in the government schools will no longer miss their duty. In order to record their timely attendance, biometric system has been installed.

In a letter issued by the Directorate to district level education officers, it has been clearly stated that in the first phase of the project thumb impression machines will be installed in 2622 schools (1599 high schools, 1018 inter college and 5 smart schools) present in the different district.

Presently, the system is operational in several schools of Gohana.

Generally, teachers in government schools skip daily classes and sign the attendance register once in a week or month. It has lead to crippling situation of education in the state. Thus the initiative has been taken to improve education system in the state.
