New Delhi: Facing acidic criticism from all quarters regarding black money and corruption, the government has set up a committee which will suggest ways to recover income tax arrears and find out those who are involving in tax evasion.

The government has announced the formation of this committee at a time when Anna Hazare had a day-long fast in protest of police action on Baba Ramdev and his followers.

The committee, headed by Anita Kapur, Director General of Income Tax (Administration), will suggest ways to recover tax from those who are not traceable. The committee is likely to seek help from external agencies to trace such tax payers and their undisclosed income.

The government has asked the committee to submit its report within two months. The committee will be able to trace the tax evaders and assess their income. It will award those people who will give information about tax evaders.

The government has already been slammed by Supreme Court over the issue of dealing with black money. Since then it has taken various initiatives to track tax evaders.
