New Delhi: Extending support to Army Chief General VK Singh over the bribery episode, Team Anna on Thursday alleged that the Army Chief is being targeted by the government because he had denied toeing their lines.

“Government has almost polluted every institution by planting their loyalists and is targeting honest people like the Army Chief. We are proud of him (General VK Singh) and fully support his war against corruption,” Arvind Kejriwal, a key member of Team Anna, wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Kejriwal further said the government seems to be at war with the armed forces as well as the people of India and lacks sincerity to effectively deal with the issue of corruption.

Another Team Anna member and retired IPS officer, Kiran Bedi said, “It appears that the Army Chief was lonely carrying forward his struggle against his department’s officials with doubtful integrity.  The common man, who is at last going to be the sufferer, was in absolute darkness for long time about the General’s struggle.”

Launching attacks at Defence Minister AK Antony, she said, “Terming oneself as honest is not enough, things will work when dishonest people are booked for their inaction. This will uproot corruption from the country.”

Earlier, General VK Singh had alleged that he was offered Rs 14 crore as bribe by retired Lt. General Tejinder Singh for swinging a sub-standard defence deal.

In a crucial development, the leakage of a previous letter by the general to the Prime Minister presenting a glooming picture of the country’s military preparedness has triggered a fresh controversy in the country.
