Attari: The Punjab government will spend Rs 82 lakhs for beautification of Sham Singh Attari memorial and provide adequate funds for restoration and conservation of the historic place, state minister Bikram Singh Majithia said on Sunday.

The state minister for information and public relations said this while paying tribute to Sham Singh Attariwala, leading general in Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army, on his 167th martyrdom day in Attari.

"Rs 82 lakh would be spent on the beautification of the memorial and assured that adequate funds would be provided to pursue the restoration and conservation works of this historic place, if need be," Majithia said.

He also announced Rs 2 lakh for the Sham Singh Attari Museum, close to the memorial and another Rs two lakh for holding sports events at the same venue.
