Ranchi: A bench comprising Chief Justice, Bhagwati Prasad and Justice DN Patel on Monday slammed Jharkhand Government saying it does not want to act against the dishonest officials.
The Jharkhand High court made this remark while hearing a PIL filed by the Citizen Cause, which has alleged that the government was not giving permission for the prosecution of corrupt officials in the state.

In the last hearing, the High Court had sought details regarding the number of corrupt officials and the information for the nod on their prosecution. When the government sought two-week time in Tuesday’s hearing, the court pulled it up.

Taking a tough stand against the state government, the court asked why the government was protecting the corrupt officials.

The bench further said, “The government is unaware about the number of corrupt officials in different departments. It does not want to prosecute against corrupt officials. Such officials create nuisance for common men. And the mess can be seen in problem such as water, electricity and violation in the state.”

The court asked the government why it needed such a long time to give details on such officials. The court gave a deadline till April 11, asking the state government as to why permission is not given for the prosecution of corrupt officials.

If the government does not reply by then it will be understood that it is not willing to follow the democratic obligations, the bench added.
