Kollam (Ker): Seething with anger after a quarrel with family members, a man slashed his two-and-a-half-year-old grandson's body with a shaving blade leaving him seriously injured at nearby Sasthamcottah.

According to hospital authorities, Athul was brought there on Sunday with blood dripping from all over his body due to injuries inflicted by his grandfather.

The boy received as many as 40 stitches, they said.

The 62-year-old man who was reportedly inebriated, tortured the boy with blade when his mother went out to fetch drinking water.

On her return, she saw the boy writhing in pain and raised an alarm. Sensing trouble, the old man fled before neighbours could gather on the spot who admitted the boy in a nearby private hospital immediately.

As per the police, Krishnankutty used to frequently pick up quarrels with his son Raveendran.

It is suspected that the old man inflicted cruelty on the child to give vent to his anger at his son.

Police said that a case has been registered against the old man under the Juvenile Protection Act.
