New Delhi: The beautiful Greek Island of Crete will host the most prestigious mini football tournament "miniEURO 2013" this year.

The tournament will be held on the idyllic island from October 10, as countries from across the continent battle it out to try and take the crown won by Romania in Moldova last autumn.

With various nations putting their names forward, in the end it was decided that Crete should host the event. President Burleanu explained that it was felt that Crete was the best venue at this stage. “We have no doubt that all the countries who expressed an interest had unique qualities and all of them would have done a fantastic job, but in the end, the Greek proposal was perhaps the best one all round and the tournament will be a fantastic success.” he said.

Elsewhere, the European Minifootball family expanded still further, with Ireland being officially voted into the European Minifootball Federation. Hungary, Poland and Russia are also soon to be accepted after their presentations to the Executive Committee at the meeting in England.

The Irish Minifootball Association have also got some exciting plans to really move forward with making mini football a success and will have a team in the miniEURO 2013 tournament for the first time.
