New Delhi: Ensuring green Delhi and making efforts to accomplish its task of planting one lakh saplings this monsoon, Delhi government has come up with a unique initiative.

Women, associated with Civil Defence, are distributing saplings free of cost at metro stations to motivate people for planting. Apart from free distribution, they also inform about the benefits of these plants.

The metro stations have been selected for this noble cause because Delhi Metro witnesses more footfalls. Under the aegis of Environment and Forests Minister, Delhi government, the saplings are being doled out free of cost to make Delhi green.

The stalls have been set up at Moti Nagar, Shadipur, Rajouri Garden and other metro stations.

“Anyone can take five plants from the stall,” said Renu who is distributing plants at Uttam Nagar (East) metro station.
Ravinder Kaur from Civil Defence said the plants can be taken from 3 pm to 8 pm.
