New Delhi: In an effort to upgrade cleanliness and hygiene in and around tracks and station areas, Indian Railways is planning to bring more trains under the green toilet cover this year. Earlier in 2011, the Railways had started providing the rakes with bio-toilets.

Bio-toilets are already running in trains like New Delhi-Rewa Express and Gwalior-Barauni Express.

The bio-toilets have been jointly developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Railways. The green toilets aim at zero-defecation on the ground. It also prevents tracks from corrosion.

Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express was given the new toilet technology last month. Varanasi-Mumbai Mahanagari Express is another train which has also been identified.
