Bathinda: Gross anomalies have been reported in the plot allotment scheme to the homeless people by Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA).

PUDA which was supposed to allot 25-25 yard plots to homeless has ignored the proposed list of allottees and have allotted the plots to unknown people. The response to an RTI revealed that beneficiaries of the project are residents of other states like Rajasthan, UP, Bihar and MP instead of Bathinda.

In 2001-02, PUDA in the name of development had demolished 600 houses and 600 slums in Model Town, Shastri Nagar and Beant Nagar.

Following the protest, the then Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had ordered to conduct a survey of affected families in the 2004, 2005 and 2006. After the survey, 1,296 families were identified to which authorities agreed to provide 25 yards plot each. After cutting the plots, PUDA demanded demand draft of Rs 250 per family along with application.

Even after Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance came in power, the homeless were not provided the allotted plots.

According to the information reveled through RTI, 502 sites of 25 yards plot each have been allotted to people between 2000 and 2009. Out of 1,296 identified families, the allocation letters have been issued to only 1,057 families.

According to PUDA, the plots have been allotted to 502 homeless families which are contradicting the figures revealed in the survey.
