Ahmedabad: Embattled Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who is being challenged by both his own party colleagues as well as the rival parties is preparing to launch Bollywood diva Juhi Chawla as BJP candidate in Gujarat assembly polls due by the end of this year.

Sources say that Juhi could be fielded against Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arjun Modhwadia in the elections. Interestingly, Modhwadia has thrown a challenge to the Chief Minister to contest election against him.

Speaking in this regard, BJP spokesperson Vijay Rupani said, “Party is contemplating to field Juhi Chawla from Porbandar assembly seat against Modhwadia.”

Rupani further claimed that Juhi Chawala and her husband Jai Mehta have already enrolled their names in the voter list of Porbandar city. Jai Mehta is a native of Porbander and his grandfather is remembered for his remarkable works done for the welfare of the local population.

In the last assembly polls held in 2007, Congress had fielded Union Minister Dinsha Patel against Chief Minister Modi from Maninagar seat.

In another significant development, former Chief Minister and veteran Gujarat leader Keshubhai Patel, who has turned estranged to the BJP leadership and the Chief Minister, is also preparing to contest against state BJP chief RC Faldu.

BJP has entrusted Hema Malini and Smriti Irani to get Juhi agreed to contest election.

Juhi Chawla’s star value and Jai Mehta’s family reputation

Juhi Chawala, born in 1967 in Ambala of Haryana, won Miss India title in 1984, has been one of the most beautiful and most successful actress of Bollywood of late 1980s and whole decade of 1990s. It seems that the BJP is contemplating to field her in Gujarat polls given her star value and the reputation of her husband’s family among local population of Porbandar. Jai Mehta is a British entrepreneur who owns the Mehta Group which is spread over Africa, India, Canada and USA.

Juhi Vs Arjun Modhwadia

Amidst ongoing speculation of star verses stalwart war in Porbandar in state assembly election, the state Congress chief and Porbandar MLA Arjun Modhwadia downplayed Juhi’s candidature against him and said that Juhi is naïve in politics and she has never been connected to the local people. Modhwadia is two-time MLA from Gujarat’s Porbandar, the home town of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.
