Ahmedabad: A Gujarat NCP MLA and scion of a royal family on Monday crossed over to BJP ahead of the Assembly elections slated for December.

Tusharsinh Maharual, who represents Devgadh Baria constituency, said he was switching his allegiance as he was impressed by development of the state in the last five years under Narendra Modi.

"In the last five years, I have seen development under the rule of chief minister Narendra Modi in the entire state and then decided to join BJP," he said.

Maharual had won his maiden Assembly election in 2007 on NCP ticket. NCP which contested the last Assembly polls in alliance with Congress had won three seats.

Devgadh Baria which falls under Dahod district has traditionally been represented by the royal family.

Along with NCP MLA, a former VHP member Chaitanya Sambhu Maharaj also joined BJP.
