Ahmadabad: The vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, Parimal Trivedi surrendered in a Dalit atrocity case on Tuesday after hiding for three days. While the vice-chancellor (VC) was immediately granted conditional bail, many educationists and student leaders were of the opinion that Trivedi should resign on moral grounds.
Lecturer of GLS college, Pankaj Shrimali had accused Trivedi of passing casteist remarks against him in March 2008. Following negligence by the police for not filing an FIR against Trivedi, Shrimali filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court.
On January 19, the Gujarat High Court directed the city police to complete the investigations into Shrimali's complaint within a fortnight and submit an action taken report (ATR) before it by the next hearing.
However, after absconding for three days, the V-C subsequently surrendered before a Magistrate court.
