Gwalior: The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday sought replies from the Madhya Pradesh government and the Police department in connection with the death of Sunil Tomar in police custody.

Alleging foul play, Tomar’s mother Shanti Devi and sister Guddi devi have approached the High Court seeking CBI inquiry into the custodial death.

While the court fixed August 18 as the next date of hearing, it ordered the Gwalior police to ensure safety of the witnesses in the case.

Sunil Tomar was allegedly beaten to death in custody in GRP station here on July 21. Police Inspector RS Chauhan had allegedly beaten him black and blue.  Later along with his colleagues he threw the body in river Chambal. Tomar’s body has not been recovered yet.
