Gwalior: Adding yet another incident to their list of carelessness, it has been learnt that police buried the body of person without establishing its identification within 24 hours of his death.

Now, once the deceased has been identified the police exhumed the body and handed it over to its family even as they alleged foul play.

The incident dates to September 13, when the Thatipur police station found a dead body. The police however failed to identify it and as no one came to claim the body, the police buried it within 24 hours of being recovered.

A Nayi Sadak resident, Ameesha Vakarnkar’s husband also went missing the same day. After Ameesha identified the things found with the body, it was ascertained that the body was of her husband Amit Vakarnkar.

After Ameesha’s repeated request fell on the deaf ears, she approached the SDM for reclaiming his body.

Taking all the developments into account, Ameesha is now alleging that her husband was murdered and police has tried to destroy the evidence.

The tightlipped police have refused to comment on the entire issue.
