Gwalior: A Gwalior Municipal Corporation (GMC) official, Abhay Rajgaonkar, who just a month before was felicitated by the urban body for record tax realization, has been found involved in gross irregularities in the revenue system. After the initial reports against Rajgaonkar, GMC is contemplating on conducting an extensive investigation in the matter.

Rajgaonkar, who had been looking after the tax collection work in GMC for last five years, was recently transferred from Gwalior.

During a sample survey, GMC found Rajgaonkar of favouring 10 people who had pending revenue worth Rs 92 lakh. The GMC official against the pending revenue realized only Rs 29 lakh and prepared ground to save the defaulters.

GMC found that registers, computer slips have been tampered in this respect and no entry was made in the main computer server.

If sources are to be believed the irregularities in the urban body may be to the tune of Rs 10 crore.

On the issue, GMC commissioner Shivraj Verma said that fine would be imposed on people benefitted in the illegal activity. “A case would also be registered against departmental employees involved in the racket,” he added.

It should be learnt that in July this year, GMC had felicitated Rajgaonkar by giving a letter of appreciation for a record tax collection.
